When the first startup I was with got acquired, I got a low six-figure payout. It was an incomprehensible amount of money to someone who had moved across the country two years prior with $5k in the bank.
I decided then that I would use my newfound largesse to solve the biggest problem I could think of. So I tried to think of something _everyone_ could use, and the answer I came up with was money.
Now I didn't think I could come up with a way to get everyone a thousand bucks, but maybe I could do five bucks. If you've ever needed five bucks and not had it, you know what that would mean.
I meandered my way between different ideas for a while, and then the little guy on the Who is Planet Nine page joined the party. It's cliche to say, but my perspective changed.
When I looked at him, and thought about him growing up, and asking me what I did, I didn't want to have to tell him, "well. I moved a lot of jira tickets for shareholder value."
So why Planet Nine? It's one guy's humble attempt to change the world--by giving everybody five bucks.
