Why We Need Money At All

Let's say you're an orchard owner, and your apples are coming in. You head into town to get a new basket, but the basket weaver doesn't want apples. They want shoes.

Money serves as the way to smooth the trade between those needs.

Now a question may be, can we think of a way to get apples, baskets, and shoes to the people who need them without the use of money. The capitalist would say no. The collectivist would say yes, or who cares.

But then the question may be, if we did find a way to distribute those goods efficiently, would we still need money for other things?

And to that we have evidence that when money goes away, people, and some animals, bring it right on back because of its utility.

To that end, I've purposefully decided not to try and redo money, or replace it. It works fine, and the problems of our world are not because it exists.
